Home, 2020 soft sculpture

Video documentation

Home, 2020 is a soft sculpture installation that incorporates text and video. There is a figure inside this shelter made of two folding chairs and fabric. Text flows down over the figure and environment, accumulating into a red mass until the color evaporates into white, and the text pours down again.

Conceptually I was inspired by the works of Louise Bourgeois, Janine Antoni, and Jenny Holzer. The installation considers themes of memory and environment. It portrays the home, or ideas of what a home is, as vulnerable, fragile, and impermanent. Nonetheless, there are strong emotions attached to even the most plain of materials or environments.

This project was my Sophomore Studio project; a milestone in my university that was unfortunately interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The installation and final documentation was completed in my dad’s garage.
