This is a hand constructed lamp I created for my cousin’s newborn, Rose. My cousin is the first in our family’s generation to have children. Her birth is notable for another reason: For years, my family has endured the loss of men in the family from one tragedy or another. It has felt like a serious plague of darkness. This new member of our family has reminded me that life goes on, and eventually, we hand the future off to younger generations. Rose’s birth has been remarkably optimistic and joyful. I created a lamp for her nursery to always remind her that she has brought light into this world.
