Recent Work

“Serious art is born from serious play.”
― Julia CameronThe Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity.

This gallery of my recent work includes completed pieces, and works in progress. I'm observing themes of nature, environment, land, material play, human body, animals, and family/ancestry. This can be observed through the motifs of small faces with round eyes, organic forms, & use of imagery or symbolism.

I am fascinated with contradiction, and find myself always putting two seemingly opposite forces together. Birth and death, or nature and industry are some examples. Despite these heartfelt inspirations, the work itself tends to have a playful and quiet sense of knowing. Visually the work has an innocence that lends itself to an experience of tenderness, rest, or reckoning. It could be said that these vessels contain unseen worlds of contemplation.

As a multiracial woman, my own being is constructed through collisions of various cultures. Gloria E. Anzaldúa's writings on the "border woman," have always felt poignant. She says,

“Living on borders and in margins, keeping intact one's shifting and multiple identity and integrity, is like trying to swim in a new element, an 'alien' element.” ― Gloria E. Anzaldúa, Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza

What's interesting is this body of work, does 'feel' alien. Identity plays a crucial role in the art that I am inspired to make, and the investigations I explore through material play. My work is always evolving, and I love to contemplate the deeper meanings as I can. However, I am also deeply interested in maintaining a degree of secrecy with my own intentions, so viewers can be more in touch with their own ideas and experiences. Please view my current portfolio, and discover what experiences you encounter within yourself.
